Upgrading From a Previous Version

If you are upgrading from a previous version of WorkgroupMail, an Upgrade existing version 5.x tick box is displayed. Ensure that this is ticked.

Press Next to continue.

Note: If you have previously installed WorkgroupMail to the folder specified in the previous page or you have chosen to upgrade an older version of WorkgroupMail then you will skip to the Summary page. If you wish to re-install completely to the same folder then you must remove the file Program Files/Workgroupmail/wmdata.dat and re-run Setup.

The next page shown is the Organization page. This page lets you enter details about your organization. Start by entering the name of your organization into the Organization Name field. If you are installing WorkgroupMail for personal use, then just enter your own name into this field.

Into the Domain Name field, enter the last part of your e-mail address. For example, if your e-mail address was john@xyz.com, then enter xyz.com into this field. Enter the name of your ISP into the ISP Name field. If you receive mail from more than one ISP, then enter the name of your primary ISP into this field. You will be able to enter information about the other ISPs at a later stage.

If your organization has a POP3 account which is capable of receiving mail for several people, then tick the Receive mail using a multiple POP3 account tick box and enter the login name and password required to access this POP3 account. If each user has their own POP3 account then do not tick the tick box. You will be able to enter this information later. Press Next to proceed.

Note: If you have only a single-address POP3 account that you wish to use to receive mail for several users (for example, a POP3 account that receives only mail sent to the address mycompany@isp.com ) then tick the tick box and enter the details here. You will need to install the Single Mailbox plug-in available from http://www.workgroupmail.com .

The next page lets you enter your details (or the details of the first user). Enter your name into the Full Name field. In the Mailbox Name field, enter the leftmost part of your e-mail address (i.e. everything before but not including the '@' character). As you enter this information, you will see your e-mail address being displayed in the Email Address field.

If your mail is received from the primary ISP using a multiple POP3 account (the details of which you entered in the previous page) then do not enter any information into the POP3 account fields at the bottom of the page. If you do have your own individual POP3 account with the primary ISP then tick the This user has an individual POP3 account tick box and enter then login name and password required to access the account.

Note: If you do not have an individual POP3 account with the primary ISP but do have an individual POP3 account with a secondary ISP then do not tick the tick box. This information may be entered later in the Workgroupmail administrator.

Press Next to continue.

The next page shown is the Modem page. This lets you specify whether or not you need to dial up in order to connect to the primary ISP. If you have a permanent connection to the Internet, or you use a proxy server to connect to POP3 and SMTP servers then select the Direct Connection radio button. If you would like WorkgroupMail to dial-up the ISP using a modem, then select the Dial up to connect radio button. Press Next to continue.

The next page lets you specify information about the mail servers at your primary ISP and if you stated that you needed to dial up to connect to the primary ISP, this page lets you specify which dial-up connection to use and the user name and password required to establish the connection.

If you receive mail from the ISP using POP3 then select Mail is received using POP3 from the Server Type drop down list. Enter the name of your primary ISPs SMTP server into the SMTP Server (sending) field. Enter the name of your primary ISPs POP3 server into the POP3 Server(receiving) field.

If mail is pushed to you (i.e. you receive mail using SMTP) then select Mail is received using SMTP . In this case, you will only need to enter the details of the SMTP server that you use to send mail.

If you specified that you need to dial up to connect to an ISP in the previous page then enter that information into the Dial-up fields at the bottom of the page. Select the appropriate Dial-up connection from the drop down list and enter the appropriate user name and password required to connect.

Press Next to continue.

The next page lets you specify when to connect to the ISP in order to send and receive mail. If you wish to connect when the WorkgroupMail program is started, tick the Connect on startup tick box. If you wish to connect when there are more than n messages waiting to be sent, regardless of any other connection options, then tick the Connect when n messages to send and enter the appropriate number of messages. If you wish to connect on a regular basis, then tick the Connect every n minutes and enter the appropriate interval in minutes. If you tick this tick box then, by default, WorkgroupMail will connect every n minutes, only between the hours of 9pm and 5pm, Monday to Friday and not at weekends. You can change this by pressing the When… button.

The When dialog box shows a grid with weekdays along one axis and time along the other. The blue areas of the grid represent the times when WorkgroupMail will connect to the ISP every n minutes in order to send and receive mail. You can change the color of the grid by clicking the left mouse button and dragging the mouse over the appropriate areas. Press OK to save your changes. Press Next to continue.

The last page is the Summary page which summarizes the choices you have made in the wizard. Press Finish to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, the WorkgroupMail program folder will be shown.
